Album

Tales from the Lush Attic, released in 1983, is the debut album by neo-progressive rock group IQ, following the cassette-only demo Seven Stories into Eight. It was also one of the first neo-progressive releases, alongside Marillion's Script for a Jester's Tear, released in the same year. In the style of some classic progressive rock albums, Tales from the Lush Attic consists of one epic song filling out almost an entire side of the original vinyl and other shorter songs composing the other side. This is IQ's 2013 remix vinyl release, Tales From The Lush Attic, originally from 1983. Note: Rerecorded and reuploaded hopefully without skips. CD: in album IQ - Tales From The Lush Attic 1983. IQ - The Last Human Gateway. IQ - Through The Corridors. The humble beginnings of IQ. Tales From The Lush Attic was IQ's first studio album release and it is an immature but partly promising affair. Two of the tracks are very long, namely the opening and closing tracks, The Last Human Gateway and The Enemy Smacks, the first of which runs for close to 20 minutes in classic Prog fashion. The first time I heard 'Neo-Prog' was when I listened to 'Misplaced Childhood' by Marillion. Although I think it's a good album, it didn't has as much impact on me as albums like 'Relayer'. It was only when I heard IQ's 'Tales From The Lush Attic' that my faith in neo-prog was restored, and also when I started to take neo-prog seriously. Without any emphasis on one particular instrument, Tales From the Lush Attic is an album that offers a balanced portion of hurried guitar and enveloping keyboards. Specks of prog-era Genesis glisten with every note sung by lead singer Peter Nicholls, who sounds eerily like Peter Gabriel. Even the structure of some of the songs resemble bits of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, but there's an air to this album that gathers attention, especially on the synth-ridden passages.
