Album

First studio album by Modest Mouse, and one of my all time favorites. Released in 1996. Dramamine 0:00 2. Breakthrough 5:42 3. Custom Concern 9:48 4. Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About is the debut studio album by American rock band Modest Mouse, released on April 16, 1996 by Up Records. Many of the album's tracks focus on traveling by automobile and the loneliness associated with rural life. All lyrics are written by Isaac Brock all music is composed by Modest Mouse. Isaac Brock guitar and vocals drums on Dog Paddle. Jeremiah Green drums bass on Dog Paddle. Eric Judy bass guitar on Dog Paddle. Modest Mouse made their first significant mark with songs whose meanings are simultaneously universal and painfully personal. Modest mouses 1996 album available on vinyl for the first time in over 10 years. This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About expands upon the themes of emotional and geographic isolation found in the bands early recordings, and finds the band mixing slow, brooding numbers with thrashing guitar workouts. The general mood here is one of loneliness and desperation, eloquently expressed through both the lyrics and the rhythmic, sprawling instrumentation. As a last thing, this is what he does at 4:48 in the song, What you do is you strike the chord really fast tremolo-ish picking: e- B--10-- G--9-- D--11-- A- E . The Modest Mouse of the 2000s was very of its time, when indie rock was turning more porous and mainstream. The Moon and Antarctica from 2000 clothed their decrepit strains in major label finery and production by someone outside of their local bubble, Califone's Brian Deck. The record also let in influences that were not yet entirely indie-approved, such as dance music on Tiny Cities Made of Ashes. Morbid lyrics and backmasked guitars notwithstanding, Gravity Rides Everything was catchy enough to sell Nissan Quest minivans. The albums title is introspective to the tracks on the album, which are predominantly about driving alone in a car. The album was released under Up Records in LP and CD format. Modest Mouses April 2001 effort, Sad Sappy Sucker was initially intended as their debut release. However, for unknown reasons, the album was delayed and This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About was released in its sted.
