Album

Damnation is the seventh full-length studio album by Swedish progressive rock band Opeth. It was released on 22 April 2003, five months after Deliverance, which was recorded at the same time. Damnation is the last Opeth album to date to be produced by Steven Wilson although he did mix two future albums, Heritage and Pale Communion. Mikael Åkerfeldt dedicated both albums to his grandmother, who died in a car accident during the time the albums were being recorded. Damnation - Opeth. The album was a radical departure from their typical death metal sound and into the much softer, 1970s progressive rock genre. The album was critically acclaimed and boosted their popularity, leading to the release of Lamentations on DVD in 2004. It was Opeth's first album to reach the Billboard Top 200, with a peak at 192. It also charted 14 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Windowpane was the album's single and has a musi. Opeth's first progressive rock album, which lacks the death metal overdubs and extreme metal influences. This album was supposed to be released together with Deliverance, but Music For Nations decided to delay Damnation for a couple of months. First pressing came in a digipak. The vocal melody in the chorus of To Rid the Disease is borrowed from a track recorded by Mikael Åkerfeldt's side-project Sörskogen, Mordet i Grottan. Recording information: Recorded during the 22nd of July and the 4th of September in Nacksving studios and Studio. Damnation is an album made in 2003 by progressive death metal band Opeth. It was released on April 22 of that year, just five months after releasing their previous album Deliverance, one of their heavier albums. Unlike most albums up to this point, Damnation has no trace of their death metal sound at all, leaving in its place a slower, lighter, more mellow sound filled with clean guitars, vocals, mellotron, and an overall strong influence from 70s progressive rock. Despite this change, it managed to be critically acclaimed and increased the bands popularity enough to get them to release their. Opeth - Damnation 2003. To favorites 24 Download album. Needless to say, the 43 minute progressive rock offering is among the greatest albums released over the last few years. Review Summary: Opeth softens up their sound, completely eliminating the extreme metal influences from their song writing. As I sit in my bedroom, writing the opening sentences of this review, I take a look out the window. Since all of Opeth's previous outings were specifically conceived for the express purpose of contrasting heavy and light, violent and delicate, black and white, such a uniform presentation would already be surprising enough, but perhaps even more astounding is the realization that Damnation can't even be termed a heavy metal album
