I think this is from 1993 actually. Somehow I remember getting a hold of this during 1993 still.

I heard this record on a mixtape from Galaxie 95.3 radio out of Lille, France. The mix was recorded in January 1994. I traveled around Europe for three months listening to the tape, and I fell in love with the track 'Mentyl'.

On the tape, the dj dropped it right after 'The First Rebirth' by Jones & Stephenson, right in the part where the the melody stops and the sawtooth LFO triggers the pitch of a synth at increasing speeds...for me, the simple 3-note melody of 'Mentyl' sitting on top of the main hook of 'The First Rebirth', coupled with the detuned pad rising in and out, it was absolute bliss, a wonderful combination of music and sound.

Sadly, I lost the tape in 1995, and based on my description of the tune, no dj could identify 'Mentyl', neither here in Phoenix, nor at Galaxie 95.3 when I went there a year later to ask for help to identify the tracks on the tape.

This year, I finally discovered the title of this track thanks to Mixtapes.be and dj Franky Kloeck. It still sounds magical, even after 20 years, I wish more tracks today were composed like this one.
