Terence Sylvester born 8 January 1947 is an English singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is a former member of the Escorts, the Swinging Blue Jeans 196669 and the Hollies. In the latter role, he took on the high parts formerly sung by Graham Nash, who had left the band in December 1968. Sylvester grew up in Allerton, Liverpool and attended school with future Badfinger guitarist, Joey Molland. At the age of fourteen, Sylvester was employed for a time as a panel beater by George Harrison's brother. Biography Terry Sylvester came to international fame in the unenviable position of succeeding Graham Nash as a member of the Hollies. A gifted singer and a talented musician, he fared well in the group for a dozen years, during which they cut three of their biggest hits and some of their best albums. Terry Sylvester was born on January 8, 1947, in Liverpool and grew up in the Allerton section, only a few hundred yards from his older contemporary, Paul McCartney. Sylvester's father, James Sylvester, introduced Terry to music at a very early age. Terry Sylvester's debut solo album presented the Hollies' singerguitarist as a romantic balladeer, covering territory ranging from Gordon Lightfoot-style folk-based numbers to string-laden, syrupy numbers that seemed as though they could have been lifted out of a Barry Manilow set. The slow- and mid-tempo songs on this album are less-viscerally exciting than anything on the Hollies' records of the time, though they are more than pretty enough and, in some cases, downright gorgeous at his best, with the right song, such as the opener, Pick up the Pieces, Sylvester c.
