Move is the debut album by The Move, released on the Regal Zonophone label. The only one which was recorded by the groups initial line-up before bassist Ace Kefford left, it includes both sides of their third and fourth singles Flowers in the Rain and Fire Brigade. Flowers in the Rain was the first ever song played on Radio 1 in September 1967 by Tony Blackburn. The Move - I Can Hear The Grass Grow. The Move - Flowers In The Rain. The Move - Fire Brigade. The Move - Wild Tiger Woman. The Move - Blackberry Way. The Move - Curly. The Move - Brontosaurus. The Move - When Alice Comes Back To The F. The Move - Turkish Tram Conductor Blues. The Move - Ella James. The Move - Tonight. The Move - Chinatown. The Move - Do Ya. The Move - California Man. One has the marvel at the recent activity surrounding the Move - from a ten-year period in which the legendary band was scarcely represented on vinyl, we're now at a point where practically every note they ever recorded for release is in print on CD, and there's even a collection of BBC performances as well as a few bootlegs. This 24-song collection concentrates on their single A- and B-sides for Regal Zonophone, Deram, Harvest, Fly, and Ariola. The Move evolved from several mid 1960s Birmingham based groups, including Carl Wayne & The Vikings, The Nightriders & The Mayfair Set. A few of the more commercial album tracks are used to fill up the disc, rather predictably including Hello Suzie and Beautiful daughter these are fine songs though. Only the final two tracks here will raise any eyebrows for those who know The Move only by their singles. The 7 minute Looking on and the 9 minute Feel too good are both taken from the Looking on album. This is NOT the best of The Move - it's a repackaging of their final album - plus a few singles. That said, this IS great Move music - Wood & Lynne & Bevan continue their slightly cracked take on British pop & rock. It's certainly easy to understand why this band didn't sell well in America: horrible cover art, no radio airplay, and no American tours to speak of. The Move were always under the shadow of the Beatles but the Move were Really a Great Live Rock Band. Read more.
