Running with Scissors is the tenth studio album by Weird Al Yankovic, released on June 29, 1999. It was the fourth studio album self-produced by Yankovic, and his first album for Volcano Records after leaving Scotti Brothers. The musical styles on the album are built around parodies and pastiches of pop and rock music of the late 1990s, largely targeting alternative rock and hip-hop. The album's lead single, The Saga Begins, however, was a parody of the 1971 single American Pie by Don McLean. Running With Scissors - Weird Al Yankovic. My Babys in Love with Eddie Vedder Lyrics. Like many of Weird Al's 1990s albums, Running With Scissors is something of a mixed bag, although devoted fans will definitely find enough of interest to add it to their collections. As usual, the highlights tend to be song parodies: The Saga Begins is a retelling of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace from Obi-Wan Kenobi's point of view set to the tune of American Pie, while Jerry Springer is a clever rewrite of the Barenaked Ladies' One Week. Weird Al Yankovic has long been a pop culture staple, having been welcomed into the very entity he seeks to parody since the early 80s. After scoring big once again with Bad Hair Day in 1996, Al's next studio effort was 1999's Running With Scissors. While not as commercially successful as the previous album, this collection of pop parodies and original comedy tunes is still as entertaining as anything Al's done in the span of his career.
