Close to the Edge I. The Solid Time of to the Edge is the fifth studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on 13 September 1972 by Atlantic Records. It is their last album of the 1970s to feature original drummer Bill Bruford before he left to join King Crimson. After touring their previous album, Fragile, the group assembled at Advision Studios in London to record a follow-up, ideas for which had been put down since February 1972. The album marked a development in the band's songwriting, with Jon Anderson and Steve. Close to the Edge is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Yes, released on 13 September 1972 by Atlantic Records. Following their tour in support of their previous album, Fragile 1971, Yes returned to the studio to record a new album. Formed of three tracks, Close to the Edge features the 18-minute title track on side one with And You and I and Siberian Khatru on side two. When recording for the album finished, drummer Bill Bruford had grown tired of the bands style and song writing methods and left to join King Crimson. Close to the Edge was well received among fans and musi. Yes' astounding 1972 album is the peak of the band's most creative period, the defining creation of the quintessential Anderson-Squire-Bruford-Howe-Wakeman line-up. The original album contained only the 20-minute title track plus two other pieces of around 10-minutes each: the beautiful And You and I' and the fast-paced, foot-tapping Siberian Khatru. I'm new to Yes somehow. Probably because this album was released 13 years before I was born, I've spent much of the last 10 years listening to a lot of metal, and only in the past few years have I really begun to get into classic rock, prog and a wide variety of electronica. Often and rightfully cited as Yes greatest achievement, Close to the Edge features the seminal 70s progressive band at the peak of their combined powers. Along with its predecessor Fragile, it is also definite proof that the quintet of Anderson, Bruford, Howe, Squire and Wakeman remains the non-debatable classic line-up, that sadly enough could not last for more than these two albums. Though featuring only 3 epic tracks and running merely 37 minutes in length, the album carries none of the groups former rough edges or future missteps. The Greatest Albums: Close to the Edge Yes. 20 March 2011 . One of the greatest rock albums ever created. With 1971's Fragile having left Yes poised quivering on the brink of what friend and foe acknowledged was the peak of the band's achievement, Close to the Edge was never going to be an easy album to make. Drummer Bill Bruford was already shifting restlessly against Jon Anderson's increasingly mysticmystifying lyricism, while contemporary reports of the recording sessions depicted bandmate Rick Wakeman, too, as little more than an observer to the vast tapestry that Anderson, Steve Howe, and Chris Squire were creating
